A recent proposal by the Parliamentary Sustainable Aviation Group is to adopt the GLA travel policy of requiring all travel which involves a door to door time of six hours to be by rail (see this week's CAB). This prompts me to ask for members' experiences of such journeys. I guess it would particularly apply to longer journeys in the UK and to the near continent. Remember the criteria - door to door. Also it would be better to hear of actual journey times rather than timetables, so, for example, how much in advance do you turn up at the airport or rail station? Let us know your experiences. It is the sort of thing that is very helpful in determining the CILT's views and policies which we discuss in the Strategic Rail and Aviation Forums.

RE: Trains v Planes

The 6 hours by rail will only work when it is possible within 6 hours. Thus to get to the other end of the country may take 6 hours during the day but may require travel the night before if arrival needs to be in the early morning.
