RE: Welcome to eDiscussion

Good to see such a facility emerge here. I am a member of a number of (non-professional) discussion groups (and a moderator of one) and it's amazing what can come out of a lively discussion!

RE: Welcome to eDiscussion

Can I start a new thread??

The Low Carbon Transport Initiative as in latest bulletin.

I direct all to a small article in November's 'Modern Railways' - the French have a ZERO carbon footprint high speed rail system:

a) Its electric

b) The electricity is generated by nuclear power.

Thanks to our missed generation of engineers, we can no longer use our own technology to achieve this but will have to go to our EU partners.

Come on HMG, lets get that HS2, stop pussy footing around and get serious about low carbon transport - we will not get it with aeroplanes, dual fuel cars, petrol (or diesel)electric vehicles or trains. Put those wires up and really get this nation of outrs moving!!!!

CILT language

At risk of sounding like Inspector Morse, could something please be done about the way David Jinks uses the English langauage?  His website, and Focus both have the kind of cheap hyperbole that I associate with Jeremy Clerkson, and that's about as rude as I can get without being sued. Focus increasingly carries news of self congratulatory events, or PR handouts unsupported by evidence. I am not advocating a sombre academic house style, simply an approach which is appropriate to a professional institute interested in evidence - something in the order of The Economist, would serve. And whilst changes are being made, could we please have some numbers to quantify trends and changes?  David Stewart-David

Is there a growing CILT membership base in India/China etc?

Has the CILT got an (increasing?) membership base in the growing economies of India and China?  Is there a regional recruitment drive in these areas to promote the benefits of membership?  Are there any organised regional activities there apart from perhaps Hong Kong?

I ask because I am shortly going to be looking for associates in at least one of these countries and want to use some local specialists, preferable of CILT standard.  Other work will be done from the UK by experienced UK bus people.

If this isn't on the agenda then I think CILT should take the opportunity and be looking to establish itself as the preferred standard in transportation in these large markets.  john@busconsultants.com

RE: Welcome to eDiscussion

Whilst your comments are democratic; my thoiughts are you are being a bit of a snob in the  way you are attacking Mr Jenks I feel  this is to be somewhat quite immature.

This forum should be on logistical issues and the day to day transport policies from successive legisltaion communicated from our pre and post elected governments.

Sorry I dont repeat my name!
